Local Links Golf
Project Overview

Local Links Golf started as a personal problem: no single, reliable place to compare public golf courses across Michigan when planning rounds with my own group. Rather than hand the idea off, it was built solo — start to finish — from a bare concept to a live, functioning product in about three weeks. This wasn't a design pass on someone else's product; it meant owning the brand identity, the visual system, the UX, and the business model all at once.

The visual language centers on a locked color system — sage green as the primary brand color, a deep pine green used sparingly for accents, and a warm red reserved strictly for calls to action — paired with a signature red hairline under every course name and Georgia serif type for course descriptions, giving the directory a distinct, editorial feel rather than a generic listings-site look. Beyond the design, the product includes a Featured Course Program, a placement-based model that gives course owners visibility in exchange for a monthly fee, turning the directory into a real, monetizable business rather than a portfolio side project.

The directory is live and covers hundreds of public courses across Michigan. The Featured Course Program moved from concept to a real pilot, with two Michigan courses signed on as founding partners ahead of a full 2027 launch — proof that a side project built to solve a personal problem could stand on its own as a business.
